Volunteers are people like you

As a volunteer, you enjoy the opportunity and personal satisfaction of serving as an integral member of the health care team at Riverside Community Hospital.

Volunteers are people like You! Homemakers, career-oriented, high school and college students, community members and retired professionals of all ages. Volunteers must be 16 years old or order and show COVID-19 vaccination status or have an exemption on file.

There is a wide variety of areas where RCH volunteers augment the quality of health care our hospital provides. Among the services provided by volunteers are: discharge patients, clerical work, lobby host, Baby Bump Brunch, book cart, patient care unit, information desk, messenger service and patient visitor.

Volunteer amenities

RCH values our volunteers. Each one of our volunteers play an important role in helping achieve our vision of providing quality, compassionate care to our patients. In addition to celebrating National Volunteer Appreciation Week every April, RCH offers the following “perks” to our volunteers:

  • Free lunch in the cafeteria, daily
  • Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
  • Annual Volunteer Holiday Breakfast

COPE Health Scholars Program

A hands-on clinical and administrative experience opportunity for pre-healthcare professionals

The Health Scholars Program at Riverside Community Hospital offers pre-healthcare professionals unparalleled access to direct patient care and hospital administrative positions. Program participants become valuable members of the care team working alongside nurses, physicians and allied health professionals in clinical and administrative settings.

Program participants receive training to assist in basic patient care tasks as they rotate among different units within the hospital. Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with taking vital signs
  • Feeding patients
  • Discharging patients

Participants have the opportunity to serve in areas such as the emergency department, inpatient care units such as cardiac telemetry and behavioral health, and outpatient units including cardiac catheter lab and radiology. Participants may also assist in labor and delivery and learn about healthcare administration.

The Health Scholar Program offers

  • Hands-on experience and education through a Keck Graduate Institute accredited course.
  • Mentorship opportunities with healthcare professionals and COPE Health Scholars staff.
  • Opportunities for entry-level hospital positions.
  • Leadership opportunities to increase professional development skills.
  • Seminars with guest speakers and healthcare panels.
  • Test-prep service discounts.
  • Attendance at networking events.
