Riverside Community Hospital (RCH) celebrated National Nurses Week with a series of activities to recognize and thank nurses across the organization. As part of the annual celebration, the hospital honored one nurse in each specialty with a DAISY Award.
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that celebrates nurses through nominations from patients, families and colleagues. RCH has partnered with the DAISY Foundation since 2017, recognizing nurses year-round, with special emphasis during Nurses Week.
This year’s honorees included a unique mother-daughter duo. Maria Archangel, a clinical nurse coordinator on the G1 Advanced Surgical Telemetry Unit, has been with RCH 16 years. Her daughter, Gabrielle, is a nurse on the South 6 Medical-Surgical Unit and has been with the hospital nine years. Both are recognized for their dedication to patient care and their support of colleagues.
“Maria is a strong, compassionate leader who consistently supports her team and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care,” said Jesse Roque, chief nursing officer at Riverside Community Hospital. “Gabriela is equally dedicated, known for her kindness, teamwork and the meaningful connections she builds with patients and families. We are incredibly proud to recognize both of them with this special honor, and to celebrate all of our DAISY Award recipients who go above and beyond every day to make a difference in the lives of those they serve.”
Since launching the program, Riverside Community Hospital has presented 79 DAISY Awards.
The DAISY Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP). DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
