Meet Our Bariatric Staff
John L. Coon, MD FACS, Medical Director
Dr. Coon is a board-certified general surgeon who received his medical degree from the University of Illinois Medical School. His residency in general surgery was completed at the University of New Mexico. He also completed a fellowship in Burn and Trauma Surgery at the University of Southern California and a Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at Parkview Hospital Medical Center in Riverside, California.
Dr. Coon is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Ravi Shah, DO
Dr. Shah received his medical degree from Western University and completed his general surgery residency from Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, California. His fellowship was completed at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC
Benjamin Y. Leong, MD
Dr. Leong is a general surgeon who received his medical degree from Medical College of Ohio and completed his residency at New York Medical College. His specialities include minimally invasive surgery, single incision laporascopic surgery, bariatric surgery and robotic surgery.
Minimally invasive surgery means less incision, less trauma, less pain, and a quicker recovery. Utilizing these advanced surgical techniques, he is able to perform bariatric surgery, hernia surgery, as well as most traditional general surgeries. His training in minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery will give patients invaluable alternatives to traditional open surgery.
Latanya D. Davidson-Wilson, MSN, CNS, RN; Bariatric Coordinator
Latanya received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Arizona, and her Master’s Degree in Nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Perioperative Nursing from Loma Linda University. She has over twenty-five years experience as a registered nurse. Latanya joined Riverside Community Hospital after retiring from a very successful career in the United States Navy, after twenty years, as a commander. She is highly decorated from her military career and continued to receive accolades after retirement by being a finalist in the California Nurse Week Excellence Award for Mentoring. She has published in peer review journals and presented at national conferences. Latanya is a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) and Sigma Theta Tau International.
Today, Latanya serves as the Bariatric Coordinator at Riverside Community Hospital.
